This spring, both casual walkers and competitive runners are invited to take part in a rewarding Orlando event that supports a noble cause. Benefitting brain cancer research and support programs with each step, the Head for the Cure 5K takes place in Orlando’s Harbor Park at 4990 New Broad Street on Saturday, February 8, 2020.
Head for the Cure’s Mission
Head for the Cure is on a mission to raise awareness, hope, and funding for the community of brain cancer patients and survivors, as well as their caregivers, families, friends, and supporters.
A celebration of unyielding courage, spirit, and energy, the Head for the Cure 5K brings the fight against brain cancer to communities all over the country. Since the inaugural Kansas City race in 2003, more than 115,000 participants and volunteers, as well as over 30,000 donors have joined the registered 501(c)3 organization’s efforts. To date, the Head for the Cure 5K has raised over $12 million toward defeating brain cancer.
Funds raised from last year’s Central Florida race benefitted the Brain Tumor Trials Collaborative (BTTC) and Orlando Health UF Health Cancer Center.
Head for the Cure also provides support through community engagements, survivor luncheons, and programs such as Brains for the Cure.
Step-by-Step Race Day Schedule
On the morning of the race, runners will line up at the starting line while walking participants will assemble behind them. Participants with children can also sign their little ones up for the Kid’s Fun Run that immediately follows the 5K. Here’s a breakdown of the 5K event day schedule:
- 8 a.m. – Race Begins
- 9:15 a.m. – Kid’s Fun Run
- 9:30 a.m. – Keeping the Faith Ceremony
- 9:45 a.m. – 5K Race Awards
