Great news for all the foodies out there! Walt Disney World released the menus for the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival and yes, the dishes are mouth-watering.

Guests can try dozens of delicious foods starting July 15 to November 20. Some fan-favorite Global Marketplaces returning are Hawaii, Australia, Germany, Canada, Appleseed Orchard, and Greece. New Global Marketplaces include Brew-Wing, Lobster Landing, The Noodle Exchange, Kenya, The Swanky Saucy Swine, and the Tangierine Café: Flavors of the Medina. Guests can also see live entertainment and partake in family activities.

The festival is available with theme park admission and a park reservation for the same date.

Disney I-Drive art installation

Disney plans to install a gargantuan, ribbon-like digital art display on 8050 International Drive which is the Hollywood Plaza garage.

The art installation will weigh 114,671 pounds, be 30 feet high, and 337 feet long. To put it into a better size perspective, the art display will be bigger than a football field. The cost is estimated to be around $1 million, but it could exceed that amount. Acomb Ostendorf & Associates of Winter Park, the developer, and Hollywood Plaza Garage Realty, the parking garage owner, are working together to make this project a reality. Disney is also partnering with Mitsubishi, a Japan-based company, to install and maintain the art display.

It is reported that construction is expected to last less than a year and the screen should be turned on in 2022.

A New Level of Advertising

Disney creators said the display will be able to change or move and will show artwork including Disney’s iconic characters, franchises, and famous attractions.

There are conceptual examples that show the image of Disney World’s Slinky Dog Dash roller coaster in Hollywood Studios. The screen will face Orlando’s main highway Interstate 4 and look north toward downtown. Just on Interstate 4, more than 200,000 cars pass by daily and in the future, the cars will be passing the digital display. International Drive alone attracts more than 15 million tourists annually. In the future, the screen can be used as an advertising tactic showing tourists new Disney attractions, events, or even just creating the want of visiting Disney.

The goal of the digital art display is to gain more exposure and bring more guests to the Walt Disney World Resort.

On top of the new art display, Disney will open a retail store on the bottom floor of the Hollywood Plaza garage. Although there isn’t a description of what the retail store will look like, we can all expect something fantastic because Disney never shoots for anything less than impressive.

Disney’s new art display will most likely inspire others to pursue the same venture, especially north of Sand Lake Road and near the Convention Center. Similar digital displays can market towards visiting conventions or even be used as a welcome sign for attendees around the convention district.

The History

Disney predicts the new technology will be an I-Drive icon at the beginning of Sand Lake Road and will advance the Orange County Dynamic Art Program’s plan to promote works of art to the public.

The art display has been in the talks for years, with supporters comparing it to installments at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City and Sydney Opera House. The application for the digital art project was filed with Orange County and was approved earlier this month. Now the project is seeking building permits. The display is projected to further the I-Drive 2040 plan which is a commitment to maintaining I-Drive as the world’s premier global destination for tourism and family entertainment.  Orange County hopes that the broader scale works of art will encourage creativity and develop a strong sense of place in the county.

In January 2020, Orange County voted to allow users on International Drive to have large video screens with art or graphics, but 10% or less of the screen can be used for advertising texts.

Other rules include the screens being at least 600 feet from I-4 and only buildings that exceed two stories in height can have screens. Walt Disney World resort jumped on the opportunity to advertise their company and the screen can be used to generate revenue from selling sponsorships if Disney chooses to do so.

Tea kettle and cup of tea

Vacation is a time to try new things, but there are moments where you simply need the comfort of daily traditions, such as tea time. Even if tea time isn’t part of your daily routine at home, make a special occasion of it while on vacation in Orlando. The time spent sipping tea may offer an opportunity to reflect on your time off or meditate on thoughts or plans you have for the future. The best part about tea time in Orlando is our diverse cultures and how they impart flavor onto tea time, so there is a tasty, relaxing way to try something new within an old tradition.

The Tea Room Experience

420 E. Church St., Orlando, FL

Let’s start with Orlando’s style of traditional tea with a modern, Floridian twist. The Tea Room Experience offers a cozy place filled with fanciful tea cups and teas, and a menu appropriate for a light meal with your afternoon (or midday) tea. The Tea Room Experience does draw on Orlando’s general vacation appeal by hosting themed parties throughout the year. Visit their website for menus and a list of tea selections chosen by their certified tea sommelier. If you’re in Orlando for a special occasion, The Tea Room Experience hosts special intimate events and small parties in their modern vintage tea room.

Infusion Tea

1600 Edgewater Dr., Orlando, FL 32804

Vegetarians and tea lovers will delight in this quaint and hip location. All of the popular and rare teas here are brewed from whole leaves to impart the tea’s full oils and aroma into each cup. The menu features classic options expected during a traditional afternoon tea break with options big enough for a meal. Everything is vegetarian and everything can be made vegan or gluten free for no extra charge. The tea menu enlightens your senses with options like Pineapple Bliss, a Japanese green tea infused with pineapple, papaya, and blue cornflower; or Weekend in Provénce, a rooibos combined with lavender, rose, and elderberry—a customer and employee favorite. Speaking of the employees and this employer, the curation of teas reflects the business owner’s values of giving back. Orlando native Christina Cowherd started Infusion Tea in 2004 after serving in the Peace Corps. She stocks the store only with ethically sourced and conscientiously grown teas. A portion of all profits go to serve Faith Project International, a missionary that builds stoves and improves the health of the Maya in Guatemala.

ROYALTEA US

714 N. Mills Ave., Orlando, FL 32803

This popular Chinese franchise opened its first US location on the outskirts of Orlando’s Little Saigon neighborhood. Here tea masters focus on freshness as they believe it is the key ingredient to a quality product and experience. Each order is made freshly, so expect to wait about 5 to 10 minutes depending on the volume of customers. ROYALTEA focuses more on Asian influence when it comes to tea. Their menu reflects the strong roots to its franchise chain in China. Fresh brewed teas are infused with the freshest fruits in season. Their signature drink is the cheese mousse tea. Second favorite is the Royal Bubble Tea. Orlandonians have a unique love for bubble tea and a large Asian community, so you’ll find this option at many places. Uji matcha tea are also brewed here and is featured in house-made desserts such as matcha crème brulée.

KrungThep Tea Time

1051 W. Fairbanks Ave., Winter Park, FL 32789

As the name suggest, this tea room has a heavy Thai influence. KrungThep is an alternative name for the Thai capital city, Bangkok. Here tea masters take their time to brew you a fresh cup (or pot) of tea, which you can order hot or cold. The tea menu has a delectable and apothecary approach which can be seen in the description for its hibiscus tea that helps support a healthy heart and lowers cholesterol. Then there are award-winning selections such as Lychee Peach, Passion Fruit Jasmine, and White Coconut Crème that highlight Thai influences. Speaking of influences, the food menu, a fascinating list of sandwich creations and naked sandwiches (aka salads), is rich with Thai favorites. You’ll find green curry, tomyum goong, pa-nang, larb, and satya satay. Last but definitely not least, KrungThep features a fanciful dessert menu that begs for second serving of tea.

Christmas lights, Snowman, Christmas Tree, Ornaments

Christmas time is here! Well, at the time of this post, the holiday is still months away. That hasn’t stopped us from already starting to plan reindeer games for the kids, movie night for the family, karaoke and cocktails for the adults, and a Christmas dinner for everyone.

For the Elves in Training

There’s more to Christmas than presents and eggnog—think games, fun, and writing letters to Santa. How else is he going to know what we want for Christmas? We bring the reindeer games to the Elves in Training right here in the lobby!

Holiday Balloon Artist

Ever wonder how a long, skinny balloon twists and turns into a dog? We’ll see, step by step, how the magic happens when a balloon artist comes to visit. I hope the artist makes some cool giraffes and a cutlass (a pirate’s sword). What’s your favorite balloon creation?

Face Painting and Photo Booth

These two activities are being paired together because you will want pictures of the face painting. As soon as your little ones transform into an animal, superhero, or mythical beast, step into the booth or click a selfie on your cell phone! The memories will sure to bring smiles for years.

Letter Writing Station

One of our favorite memories as kids was writing letters to Santa. You sit down to carefully list what it is you want for Christmas because, according to you, you’ve been good all year long. So, yes, I deserve all the toys listed in this letter. Mom and Dad will back me up, right?

Sparkle the Elf

Sparkle has become somewhat of a legend here at the hotel. She’s the ringmaster of reindeer games. Make sure the kids DO NOT miss a visit from this playful elf! After the kids have their fun, Sparkle takes all the letters written to Santa and delivers them.

For Adults Who Love Singing and Getting Jingled

Of course, we’re assuming you’re old enough to drink AND staying at our hotel. If both apply, then this suggestion is for you. Also, if you’re wondering what it means to get jingled, it is slang for mildly intoxicated. Thankfully with karaoke, the song’s lyrics are provided so there’ll be no excuse to ramble through a song. All you’ll need is effort that is pot-valiant (a fancy term for “liquid courage”).

Fun for the Family

Christmas Movie Night

For one night we slow festivities down so families can gather and enjoy a Christmas-themed movie. Weather permitting, we host this movie night outside. If you haven’t been outside at night in Florida in December, the weather is typically divine. All the movies we’ve ever shown are family friendly.

A Christmas Feast for All

Rosen Inn International is a fun hotel to stay at during the holidays. We love the holidays and the joy it brings. Knowing you’re probably far from home when you stay with us, we love to create an environment that feels like home, which, of course, includes a hot, special Christmas buffet. Every year in the Fountain View Café we host a Christmas buffet in the afternoon. No reservations are needed. Simply show up, grab a plate, and enjoy a cornucopia of holiday favorites including meats, seafood, a smorgasbord of sides, and tasty sweets.

The Full Details

We’re still working on the details, so please check back soon. We’ll link to the list of events and menus from this blog as our plans solidify.

Image via https://www.altamonte.org/701/Red-Hot-Boom

Red Hot & Boom is one of the best Independence Day celebrations in the state—and one of the most popular, too. The City of Altamonte Springs and local radio station XL 106.7 host Red Hot & Boom at the beautiful Cranes Roost Park. Rather than competing with nearly every other holiday celebration on July 4, this event takes place on July 3 so you can enjoy even more Independence Day festivities. This year’s 24th edition of the annual event kicks off at 4:00 p.m. and lasts until 11:00 p.m. Live music from radio-friendly performers lasts through the evening, culminating in one of the most spectacular fireworks displays in the area.

What to Bring to Red Hot & Boom

Naturally, such a fantastic event draws plenty of fans. Last year’s event is estimated to have drawn more than 100,000 people (free admission helps with that). If you are planning to attend, please note that the festivities take place rain or shine, so come prepared. You are welcome to bring small tents, folding lawn chairs, small soft-sided coolers, and blankets, but please avoid large coolers, drones, glass containers, and alcohol as these items are prohibited. Food and beverage vendors will be onsite so you can sample some of the area’s best eateries.

Past musical guests have included Echosmith, Lauv, the Jonas Brothers, and other major pop acts. Information on this year’s concert lineup and other announcements about the event can be expected as we move nearer to July. For more information, as well as photos from Red Hot & Boom celebrations in previous years, visit https://xl1067.iheart.com/featured/red-hot-and-boom/.

Local Tip For Viewing the Fireworks

Show up early and plan to spend your entire afternoon/evening at the event. Red Hot & Boom always brings large crowds, so you will want to arrive before it gets too densely packed. This way, you also can find a great spot near the water to view the fireworks.

Disney Springs

Kissimmee

June is a fairly slow month for the Orlando City Soccer Club and for the MLS as a whole, as the league takes a break in the middle of the month to allow for national team play. The Lions play just three matches this month, and all of them are away from home. However, the women’s soccer team, the Orlando Pride, takes the field at Orlando City Stadium twice this month.

OCSC at Montreal Impact

Saturday, June 1 | 4:00 PM

Montreal opened their 2019 season in good form. At the time of writing, they have come off of an undefeated preseason and kicked off their season with a 2-1 victory against the San Jose Earthquakes. They look posed to rebound this year after just narrowly missing out on the playoffs last year. Watch this away game from the Topsy Turvey Lounge.

Pride vs. North Carolina Courage

Saturday, June 1 | 7:30 PM

The Orlando Pride open the month with a tough matchup against last season’s reigning champions. The North Carolina Courage finished the 2018 season 16 points clear of the second place Seattle Reign FC. They were the only team to have 10 or more wins last season (with 14 total!), and they seem prepared to repeat again this year. This game is one of the premier matchups in the entire league and definitely worth watching in person from Orlando City Stadium.

National Team Break

Friday, June 14 – Friday, June 21

OCSC at D.C. United

Wednesday, June 26 | 8:00 PM

D.C. United’s preseason fixtures didn’t appear to be much of an indicator for their current form heading into the 2019 season. They stand to make the playoffs again this year. Orlando City will have a fairly tough matchup when they travel to the nation’s capital for this away-game matchup.

OCSC at Columbus Crew

Saturday, June 29 | 7:30 PM

Much like the aforementioned D.C. United, there is little to learn from Columbus’s preseason matches. They drew twice, and beat recent expansion team FC Cincinnati 3-0 before officially opening their 2019 season with a 1-1 draw against the New York Red Bulls. This will be another test on the road for Orlando City, but it is definitely a winnable match.

Pride vs. Chicago Red Stars

Chicago and Orlando are just about as evenly matched as you can get in the National Women’s Soccer League if you go by last year’s standings. Both teams finished with 28 points on the season, with Chicago taking the third spot due to a better goal differential, despite Orlando having one more win.

Your Orlando Hotel Near the Orlando City Stadium

The Orlando City Stadium is just 9 miles from your room at Rosen Inn International, making it easy to enjoy the thrilling excitement of a live game. Feel like staying in? Watch the game on the big screen while enjoying some comfort food at Topsy Turvey Lounge, just off the lobby. To reserve your room at Rosen Inn International, call 407-996-1600.

January is all about the new and improved, bringing many New Year’s resolutions, new beginnings, and fresh starts. I bet there is still somewhere in Orlando you haven’t been or something you haven’t done, right? It’s a great idea to create a list for your next vacation and make those the first things you do. To get you started, take a look at these cool attractions in the Orlando area.

    • Did you know we have our own natural springs in Central Florida? At Wekiwa Springs State Park there are fun activities for the whole family such as swimming, canoeing, and kayaking. If you love the outdoors, you’ll definitely want to add this to your list.
    • Speaking of enjoying the great outdoors, why not take an airboat ride on Boggy Creek? You’ll feel like you’re flying as you speed along the Florida wetlands for an up close look at wildlife, including lots of alligators.
    • If you really want to fly, visit Air Florida helicopter tours on I-Drive. There are a variety of routes that give you a bird’s eye view of the area, including theme parks, lakes, and even your hotel.
    • Consider adding iFly to your list if you like adventure but want to stay indoors. Here all ages and skill levels have the chance to experience skydiving in an indoor wind tunnel.

There is lots more to do in Orlando but I hope these have given you an idea of fun activities to add to your New Year’s bucket list. What are you most looking forward to trying in 2018?

With Father’s Day around the corner, we’ve been thinking about fun activities Dad would love, yet there are so many choices. What can we say? Dad’s Day in Orlando is really exciting, so who better to explain what to do than from the best source possible—my main man—Dad. Here’s a quick rundown of my father’s top three picks on International Drive.

1. For the active father, try iFLY Orlando. This amazing indoor skydiving experience lets you enjoy the thrill of free-falling in a wind tunnel. No parachute, plane, or skydiving experience needed.

2. For the chill father looking to stay cool and enjoy the summer sun, try Aquatica SeaWorld’s Waterpark. With more than 12 water rides and slides, Dad can dip, dive, float, or slide alongside dolphins. Soaking up the sun has never been so much fun.

3. For the detective father who enjoys a mental challenge, try America’s Escape Game. Choose one of five uniquely-themed rooms from which you have to escape—in an hour—using clues, puzzles, deductive reasoning, and team skills. Let Dad be the hero as he uncovers mysteries, hidden treasures, and saves the world from crisis!

There are dozens of more activities: midway rides, side-show attractions, dinner shows, and mini golf to name a few. If you and Dad still can’t make up your minds, ask the Guest Service Desk for an opinion. We’ll be happy to help.

Have an AMAZING Father’s Day!

One of the most common (and broken) resolution for the New Year is to exercise. Sometimes it’s hard to fit exercise into your daily routine, especially when you’re on vacation. But did you know that you can sneak in exercise everyday by doing things such as taking the stairs rather than the elevator, parking further away from the stores, or speed walk during your errands? A little bit goes a long way.

7600-fitness

We understand that while you’re on vacation, exercising might be the last thing on your mind. Even with our wonderfully well-equipped fitness center on site, you’re probably looking to spend some time out and about. That’s okay. You’re going to get a great workout. Here’s why…

There are so many attractions on International Drive—all of which are easily accessible by just walking. There are about three miles worth of restaurants, shops, and attractions for you to explore during your stay. Even if you take the IRide Trolley part of the way, you’ll still get a good work out.

A day spent at a theme park also amounts to great exercise. On average, expect to get in 5 to 10 miles of walking at any theme park. Squeeze in more exercise while waiting in line or watching parades or street shows doing calf raises or stretches. If you’re a thrill seeker, you might be happy to know that roller-coasters actually help you burn calories. Our favorite rides may help tone the body as our muscles contract to grip the handrail, heart rates spike, and as we react to the twist and turns by contracting major muscle groups.

Now you know how to turn a vacation into a fit-cation, so enjoy a guilt-free vacation knowing you’re probably getting the best workout possible.
