The North Shore Birding Festival, Dec. 3-7, 2020, is perfect for visitors interested in learning more about local wildlife. The festival highlights the St. Johns River Water Management District’s 20,000-acre Lake Apopka North Shore, a birding hotspot. There are 42 field trips over 4 days with built-in COVID-19 precautions. Trips allow driving into parts of the North Shore otherwise inaccessible except on foot or bicycle, while other trips explore other areas of Central Florida in search of local specialty birds. There are three Sunrise Photography and Birding trips, and this year two owl and Whip-poor-wills walks, as well as a star walk at Wekiwa Springs State Park. Each trip has a charge of $10-70, which supports Orange Audubon Society’s nature and environmental center fund or related educational programs. There is no additional festival registration fee. If you have any questions, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call (407) 637-2525.
Red Hot & Boom is one of the best Independence Day celebrations in the state—and one of the most popular, too. The City of Altamonte Springs and local radio station XL 106.7 host Red Hot & Boom at the beautiful Cranes Roost Park. Rather than competing with nearly every other holiday celebration on July 4, this event takes place on July 3 so you can enjoy even more Independence Day festivities. This year’s 24th edition of the annual event kicks off at 4:00 p.m. and lasts until 11:00 p.m. Live music from radio-friendly performers lasts through the evening, culminating in one of the most spectacular fireworks displays in the area.
What to Bring to Red Hot & Boom
Naturally, such a fantastic event draws plenty of fans. Last year’s event is estimated to have drawn more than 100,000 people (free admission helps with that). If you are planning to attend, please note that the festivities take place rain or shine, so come prepared. You are welcome to bring small tents, folding lawn chairs, small soft-sided coolers, and blankets, but please avoid large coolers, drones, glass containers, and alcohol as these items are prohibited. Food and beverage vendors will be onsite so you can sample some of the area’s best eateries.
Past musical guests have included Echosmith, Lauv, the Jonas Brothers, and other major pop acts. Information on this year’s concert lineup and other announcements about the event can be expected as we move nearer to July. Local Tip For Viewing the Fireworks
Show up early and plan to spend your entire afternoon/evening at the event. Red Hot & Boom always brings large crowds, so you will want to arrive before it gets too densely packed. This way, you also can find a great spot near the water to view the fireworks.

Holiday of a lifetime
This hotel is perfect for going anywhere in Florida, it is central to all the parks, malls, and being on International Drive it has all the restaurant and bars close at hand. The rooms are of a lovely size with fridge, microwave, coffee machine and safe. The beds were very comfortable and always clean and tidy. The room was spotless.
Once again staying at the Rosen
We have stayed at this hotel literally 15-20 different times from away back when it was the Rodeway and our last trip being in November 2019. It is a great hotel for couples, families, whatever. The staff are great, it is clean and any rooms we have stayed in lead onto an indoor corridor providing extra security. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and have booked my flights for returning to International Drive in November 2020 and will probably stay in the Rosen International.
