This fall, the International Gathering of Scottish Highland Dance (IGSHD) company is bringing a blend of tradition and entertainment to Central Florida. From October 24–28, the IGSHD crew is packing a ton of events, performances, and competitions at Disney theme parks and the nearby Orange County Convention Center. Here’s a breakdown of the routine at this year’s event.
ChoreoMagic Disney Challenge
Dancing and Disney storytelling share the spotlight during the ChoreoMagic Disney Challenge. For this competition, dancers are encouraged to choose a Disney theme and pair it with Scottish Highland Dancing to tell a culturally blended story. Dancers don’t need registration in the Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing (SOBHD) to participate, so you can start crafting your routine today.
The American Magics Competition
When you combine the magic of Disney with spectacular Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing (SOBHD) performances, you get The American Magics. The American Magics is a traditional Highland dance competition that features performers from around the globe. Split into four age groups, the competition provides a platform for dancers of all ages to participate and win competitive awards.
Disney Dancin’ Workshop
During the 90-minute workshop, participants will learn dance routines from Disney show directors, producers, and choreographers. Dancing is the main focus of the workshop, but instructors also teach participants about the audition process, how to stand out on stage, and creating a Disney cast member resume. Dancers start the session with a strategic warm-up routine and end their time in the workshop with a final dance performance to show off their newfound skills.
IGSHD Disney Pre-Parade
Disney visitors gather around Magic Kingdom Park to witness this magical pre-parade choreography. Featuring a blend of history-filled dancing and Disney parade magic, this event is an outdoor experience for everyone in attendance. Registration in the SOBHD competition isn’t required for dancers who want to participate in the parade, but there are open auditions for dancers who want to try out.
